EMAIL FROM NASA



About a year ago I decided to try out 3D modeling. I started sculpting a head from the digital grey ball I had in front of me and was amazed by how similar it was to using actual clay.

Since everything related to outer space has always been a fascination of mine, I decided I wanted to apply planet textures to the heads I had created. And I figured, why not use actual photage of the planets. This led me down a NASA database rabbit hole. Since I have big respect for the material I wanted to ask for permission to use the photage, despite this being a personal project. Of course never imagining that they would reply – but more like a polite gesture.

You would not believe what happened.

Wow.

Starstruck by this poetic response I spent  the following days finishing Mercury, Jupiter and Saturnus and sculpting moons into their actual shape and proportions. Finally I applied textures with the source:
